WEEDSPORT - Marion Hilda Sykes Case, widow of Ronald Littlefield Case, passed from this world Friday, April 15, 2011, after a short illness. She was born in the Town of Lorraine, Jefferson County, on October 1, 1922, the middle daughter of Claude Harvey and Laura Lillian Macomber Sykes. On her 19th birthday, October 1, 1941, she married her high school sweetheart in a double wedding ceremony with Ron's twin brother Donald, and Thelma Elaine Steele in Belleville, officiated by the Rev. Miles Hutchinson. She lived in Lorraine, Woodville, Rural Hill, Belleville, Adams Center, Gouverneur, Port Byron, Throop, Auburn, Sennett and Weedsport.
Marion and Ron were very active in the Order of the Eastern Star and when she was Matron and he was Patron in 1965 their daughters, Nancy and Peggy joined the organization. In 1974 she was District Deputy Grand Matron and enjoyed the traveling and fellowship that followed. She also belonged to the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, October 4, 1997; her older sister, Leola Aubra Sykes Wetterhahn, January 9, 1997; her youngest daughter, Judy Lee Case Defendorf, November 7, 2003; and her son-in-law, Douglas Smith, October 27, 2004. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, Nancy (Ted) Marshall of Weedsport, Sally Smith of Port Byron, Peggy (Bill) Fastic of Auburn, Ronald H. (Diane) Case of Weedsport; her sister, Etta Elnora Sykes Weldon Stewart of Bell, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. Friends may visit with her family Monday, one hour prior to the service, 12 noon to 1 p.m.
