Karl Schartner Obituary

Karl J. Schartner’s compassion and love for others didn’t come to an end with his passing at the age of 76 on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. He leaves behind a substantial amount of loved ones that include family and friends, who were so enormously impacted by his giving personality. Karl was born in Clinton, Massachusetts in May of 1947; the youngest of four to Joseph and Dorothy Schartner. He would graduate from Nashoba Regional High School and later enroll in the United States Army, serving his country as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War era. Karl lived in the Massachusetts area before later moving to Central New York for the last three decades of his life. Karl always had a love for auto racing. This love led to his immeasurable positive impact on the local racing community; from mentoring fellow racing community members, to volunteering his time at the Dirt Museum and Hall of Fame in Weedsport, NY. Karl was incredibly talented in the design and building of many things throughout his life. To this day, Karl has numerous race cars he has built still operating in the area successfully. His family, friends and the racing communities will miss Karl tremendously along with his contagious half-grin and loving heart.

Karl was predeceased by his two sons Joseph and Jonathan Schartner.

He is survived by his children; Denise Schartner, Doreen Nelson Millar, Robert Martin and his fiancé (Lindsey), Leah Cox and her husband (Cody), Andrew Schartner and his wife (Chandler). He is also survived by nine loving and beautiful grandchildren.

A wake will be held for Karl at White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport, NY on Wednesday, March 27th from 4-6:30pm with eulogy and funeral services from 6:30-7pm.

If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the non-profit Dirt Hall of Fame Museum for which Karl was a passionate volunteer (Weedsport) or the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation.

You will always be an example for us all Karl and will be tremendously missed.
