John Gamba Obituary

 

John D. Gamba, 88, Auburn passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Syracuse VA Hospital. Mr. Gamba was born in Williamsport, PA on October 2, 1930, the son of the late Angelo C. and Hazel  Womelsdorf  Gamba. John enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp and proudly served during the Korean War. In his earlier years, John was employed at Gamba's Furniture Store in Port Byron, he owned and operated J. W. Carpet, worked at the Button Shop and at his father's business, Van's Bakery. John was a retired Corrections Officer with the Cayuga County Sheriff's Dept. John  enjoyed spending  time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in all their accomplishments.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Helene Wise Gamba, his children, Roseanne Stott, Kathy (David) Yantch and TJ (Laurie) Gamba, his grandchildren, who brought him so much joy, Kate Dennis, John Testa, David Michael Yantch, Ashley Grace Lorch, Stephanie Moore, Danielle Yantch, Melissa O'Hora, Kevin Stott, Abigail Gamba and Michael Gamba, great-grandchildren, Ava, Cameron, Jacob, Zachary, Christian, Noah, Reese, Atlas, Danny and Evan, his brothers, Dale (Carol) Gamba and Lawrence Gamba, his sister Lois (William) McNamara, several nieces and nephews.John was predeceased by his daughter Patricia Garlock, his sister Mary Lou Reed and brother, Robert Gamba who was killed while serving as a medic during WWII.

Calling hours will be held Friday, April 12, from 9 AM to 10:45 AM in Sacred Heart Church, with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11 AM.  Burial at Soule Cemetery, Sennett.
