Muriel Hickey Obituary

 

Muriel L. Hickey, 89, of Cayuga passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse.  Muriel was born in Syracuse on May 2, 1930, the daughter of the late Fred D. and Ermine A (Fiddler) Lutzy. She received her Masters Degree in Music Performance and Elementary Education from Syracuse University. Muriel taught at several area schools, including Elbridge, Port Byron and Union Springs Central School District at Cayuga Elementary. She shared her talents and love of music with many, for 49 years she was  the head organist at St. Mary's Church and taught the piano and organ at her home. .  Muriel was involved in many musical organizations, she was the past president of Pro-Musica, a member of  Auburn Community Players, Seneca Community Players, Geneva Theatre Guild and the American Organ Guild, which presented her with the "Voice of the Organ Award".

Muriel is survived by her devoted family, her daughters, Joanne Woodman, Pamela Bryan and Judy Donahue, her beloved grandchildren, Dennis (Christine) Hickey, Traci (Cory) Randall, Phillip "PJ" (Alyssa) Hickey, Steven Short, Charles Short, Jason and Dale Donahue, nephew Mark Sychtysz, her great-grandchildren, Chelsie, Kara, Hannah, Abby, Devin, Owen, Noah, Cheyenne, Payton, Gavin, Brice, Leah, Kelsey, Steven, Hailey, Jaxson, Gavin, Jeffery and Tristin, her great-great-granddaughter, Emma and  her sister-in-law Marion Hickey.  

Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Charles, her grandson Kevin Hickey, her sister Bonnie Michalec, her son-in-law John Bryan and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 21, from 1-4 PM at White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South St., Auburn.  Service Monday at 2:00 PM at the funeral home, with visitation from 1-2 PM, prior to service. Burial Lakeview Cemetery, Cayuga.
