John H. “Jack” Smith  73, of Auburn, passed away at his family home on Bluefield  Road
Thursday August 31, 2017.Jack was the son of the late  Harvey and Kathleen Alger Smith.
Born in Auburn on June 22,  1944, he attended Union Springs High School.He proudly
served his Country with  the US Army during the Vietnam War. Jack owned and operated,
  “Dove Communications” at his home,where repaired satellites and radios . He  loved operating
his HAM radio and was involved with ARRL ( American Radio Relay League) The RACES  Group,and ARES. He was also a member of  VFW Post 1975 and The American Legion.Jack is survived by his wife of 27  years, Kathleen Poppe Smith, his daughter, Katie Smith, and  his son Adam Smith and his wife Emily of Syracuse, a  sister,Annette (David) Parker of Auburn,  nieces, nephews, many friends and extended family  members.In addition to his parents, he was  predeceased by a sister Joanne Smith.Friends are invited to call on the  family Sunday from 12 pm (noon) to 2pm at White Chapel  Funeral Home, 197 South Street Auburn. A Prayer Service and Military  Honors will be held at 2pm following calling hours. Private  Burial will be in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn.

Jack will be missed by us. We enjoyed the laughter and conversations through out the years. So glad we got to be close friends. Our hearts and love go out to Kathleen, Katie, Adam and Jim as well as to other family members and friends who love Jack. Gods blessings and comfort for all. I've known Jack since the 1970's when I lived in Syracuse and Elbridge. He was a ham's ham and respected world wide. RIP Jack.
