Charles J. Whitehead, 93, of Auburn passed away peacefully Thursday October 4, 2018 at Fingerlakes Center for The Living, with his family by his side.

Charles was born February 5, 1925 in Auburn to the late Lester and Nellie Pearce Whitehead. He was known as “The Water Man”, operating Whitehead’s Water Service for many years, as well as farming 100 acres of land in Fleming.

He was a proud and active volunteer with the Fleming #2 Fire Department. For his 70 years of service, he received The Lifetime Firefighter’s Award at a gala reception in February 2013.

Family was the most important thing in the world to Charlie. Since the death of his beloved Jane, 16 years ago, his daughter Amy was a constant and loving support, for which family living far away will be forever grateful. Up until the final month of his life, Charlie enjoyed a daily drive to survey the country side and check on the crops.

Mr. Whitehead is survived by his daughter, Amy Hutchinson (J.T. Locastro) of Auburn, his sons David (Suzanne) Whitehead of CA., and Jack Whitehead (Kit Waters) of Nova Scotia, grandchildren, Justin, Travis,
Taylor, Kate and Laura, two great grandchildren, a sister Marjorie Gulliver, many nieces and
nephews, and special friend Phyllis Russell.

Charlie was predeceased by his wife Jane Farnham Whitehead, and brother-in-law,
Don Gulliver.

A gathering to celebrate Charlie Whitehead’s life will be held Tuesday October 9 from 4pm to 7pm at the Fleming #2 Fire
Department on South Street Road.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Memory of Charlie may be made to Hospice of the Finger Lakes.
Funeral arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South Street Auburn.
