Alan Bennett Obituary

Alan Joseph Bennett, 70, of Newell, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2024 at Monument Health, Spearfish, South Dakota after battling illnesses combined with an auto accident.

 

Alan was born in Auburn, NY on April 22, 1954 to the late Joseph and Betty (Atkins) Bennett. Two years later he was baptized in Throopsville, NY on May 25, 1956.  On September 9, 1972, Alan received his GED, resided in Throopsville, NY and worked as an auto mechanic before helping his parents move to Phoenix, Arizona.  He was going to continue west to California but ended up staying in Arizona. He had been a mechanic and later a forklift operator, loading merchandise trucks at Silo where he met his future wife, Cheryl.  Alan and Cheryl were married June 1, 1994.

 

Alan and Cheryl later moved to Newell, South Dakota in November of 2000 and in the fall of 2006, Alan moved his mother Betty from Florida to live with him in Newell after his sister, Donna, passed away. He and Cheryl stayed close friends after their marriage breakup. 

 

In addition to his parents Joseph and Betty Bennett Alan was predeceased by his sister Donna Bennett. He is survived by his ex-wife Cheryl Bennett; stepson Aaron Bennett; several relatives on his mother's Atkins side of the family; and several relatives on the Bennett side. 

 

Alan, Betty and Donna Bennett were cremated, and their remains will be buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Throop at 11am on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
