Alice Elizabeth French Nash, wife of the late Richard L. “ Dick” Nash, passed peacefully at home with her family, April 12, 2021. Predeceased by her parents Anna and John French of Auburn and her brother Stuart and his wife Marie French of Honeoye, NY. Always known as Betty, she had many accomplishments, including graduating with honors (Phi Beta Kappa)from Cayuga Community College in 1975, and a scholarship to Cornell University. She enjoyed piloting her husband’s airplane, building her own home with Dick in 1962 and campaigning for public office in the town of Sennett. Betty worked for the telephone company after high school from 1944 to 1952 prior to her 59 year marriage to Dick. After raising her five children she returned to work for the Cayuga County Medicaid Dept. for nearly a decade. Always a devout Christian, Betty was a life member of the Disciples of Christ Church, later merged to become The United Church of Auburn. She served faithfully as church clerk, deaconess and secretary, teacher and elder. Her beautiful soprano voice was heard from the choir loft for over seventy five years. Her many hobbies included reading every mystery book in Seymour Library, knitting, gardening and extensive travel. In her youth she enjoyed horseback riding and performing in her high school plays. Betty is survived by her children Richard “Lee” (Patricia) Nash of Auburn, Jennifer( Michael “Red”) Matthews of Syracuse, Barbara E. of Auburn, Nancy Nash-Carter(John Carter) of Liverpool and John D. of Auburn.She is also survived by her niece Alice French Pultz(Danny) of North Carolina and her sister- in -law, Brigitte Featherstone of Arizona, as well as several grand and great- grandchildren.Betty will be missed by her many friends and church family and beloved cat kids. Gifts can be made if desired to the memorial fund of the United Church of Auburn. The family wish to thank Hospice for their support and Darlene Minikheim for her loving care of mom.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 14th from 4-7pm at White Chapel Funeral Home Inc. Auburn. Services will be held Thursday, 11am at United Church of Auburn, 77 Metcalf Drive. Burial to follow at Soule Cemetery.
