Andrew Smelski, 93, formerly of Weedsport; passed away in Florida on Saturday, February 15, 2025. A native of Cato, he was the son of the late Stephan and Helena Kurjatnyk Smolenski, and was a graduate of Cato Meridian High School, class of 1950. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Carrier in Syracuse following 35 years of service.
Andrew was an avid reader and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. He enjoyed meticulously caring for his lawn, woodworking, jigsaw puzzles and gardening. He lettered in football during high school and also coached Little League baseball in his younger years. He especially liked spending time with his family.
He is survived by three sons Steven (Shelly), Michael (Theresa) and Mark (Sally); one daughter Karen Krzykowski (Joseph); seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Smelski, Hudson Smelski, Gretchen Krzykowski (Anthony Epifani), Maren Smelski (Alex Timmerman), Cooper Smelski, Tyler Smelski, and Braden Krzykowski; sister Sofie Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.
Andrew was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Julia, his grandson Jordan Smelski, his brothers John, Bill and Frank; and sister Anne Perry.
Calling hours for Andrew will be conducted Monday, February 24, 2025 from 3 to 5 PM in the White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. A service will follow at 5 PM at the funeral home. Spring burial will take place in Weedsport Rural Cemetery.
