Beatrice “Bea” Hazzard, 85, of Weedsport passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 6, 2025, at the Matthew House. Born in Candor, NY on September 23, 1939, Bea was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Williams Harris. In 1959, she married Clinton Hazzard and moved to Weedsport, NY where they raised their four children. Bea began working at the Holiday Inn shortly after it opened in 1980. She continued there for 40 years and enjoyed every minute of her employment. She took great pride in her work there and became a friend to many regular customers who looked forward to seeing her bright smile at the hostess station and she in turn looked forward to seeing all of them.
Bea also enjoyed knitting and crocheting making many baby blankets and sweater sets. During the pandemic she spent her days knitting and crocheting hats which she later donated to a local church. Bea had a beautiful spirit and contagious smile that would light up a room. She was very involved with family activities. Bea truly loved her family and her family adored her and cherished the time spent with her. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Bea is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Clinton Hazzard, her daughter, Denise Hazzard; her sons, Michael (Maureen) Hazzard and David (Betty) Hazzard; her daughter-in-law, Kim Hazzard; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Steven, Ryan, Megan, Brandy, Tabitha, Michael, Clint, Charles, Felicia, Dave, Zack, Jocelyn, Heather and Rian; 15 great grandchildren, with one on the way and 2 great great grandchildren. Her sister and best friend, Judy (John) Gilfus and Judy’s children Teresa (John) Arington, John (Rebecca) Gilfus, Jeff (Laurie) Gilfus and Sheri (Bill) Stanzak and their children who all adored their “Aunt DeDe” and will miss her at all the family gatherings. Additionally, she is survived by a brother-in-law Harry Lathrop and his children, James, Pam and Jason; nieces and nephews include Sandy, Penny, Richard and Francine.
Bea was predeceased by her son, Steven Hazzard and her sister, Mary Lathrop.
Calling hours for Bea will be held on Tuesday, September 9th from 4pm - 7pm in White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 10 am in the funeral home with burial to follow in Weedsport Rural Cemetery.
