Betty Jane Kowal, 84, of Auburn passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, at Auburn Community Hospital. She was born in Auburn, New York, on January 2, 1940, to the late Frederick and Rita (Fennessy) Horning. She graduated from Union Springs High School where she was a majorette in the marching band. Betty spent her childhood growing up on Cayuga Lake which always held a special place in her heart. Before her retirement, she spent over twenty years employed by Cayuga County Nursing Home as a CNA. Betty was an amazing cook, an avid reader, and always enjoyed watching the Yankees. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Theresa M. Kowal, Eileen M. Hagin, Janie L. (Phil) Niles, Kathleen A. Kowal; her sons, Brian J. Kowal, Keith E. (Traci) Kowal, Christopher A. (Debbie) Kowal, Bradley G. Kowal; her sister, Linda VanHout, her grandchildren & great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, George A. Kowal and her son George “Guy” F. Kowal.
At Betty’s request there will be no calling hours or services. She will be laid to rest with her husband and alongside her son in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Auburn.
Donations in Betty’s name can be made to the Seneca Cayuga ARC in lieu of flowers.
