Betty Nans Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our sweet mother, Betty Ruth Nans, who passed away peacefully on May 7th 2024. She was born October 26,1925 in Providence, RI. The daughter of Elianne Marguerite (Verrier) and Frederic Hadley Wild. On August 4, 1951, Betty married Edward (“Eddie”) Adelard Nans in the Episcopal Church in Pawtuxet, Rhode Island; they were married for 46 years. She is survived by 5 children: Edward H. Nans, Clayton F. Nans, Stephanie G. Cunningham, Cynthia S. Green (Richard A. Green) and Russell W. Nans (Lorene M. Nans). She also has 21 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and two nephews. Betty is predeceased by her husband “Eddie” and her brother Frederic H. Wild, Jr. (Mae B. Wild).

Betty was a proud New Englander from Warwick, RI. Betty graduated from URI and studied Dietetics, earning a bachelor’s degree in this area. Betty and Ed resided abroad and many places on the east coast of the U.S. before settling in Central New York.  She worked at Auburn Memorial Hospital for several years as a dietician.

Betty had many hobbies and interests. When her children were younger, Betty was a Girl Scout leader in Liverpool, NY leading her troops on many adventures. Our mom was a member of the Sennett Federated Church where she sang in the church choir. A little later in life, Betty found a love of art and became a highly skilled artist. She began painting, gardening, quilting, making clothing, knitting and cross stitching. She was very prolific with her crafts and her family enjoys the treasures she created.

She developed an interest in Early American Design. She joined “HSEAD”, (Historical Society of Early American Design). It was through her affiliation with HSEAD she met many of her beloved friends.

Betty loved to travel!  She and her husband traveled the world and after a trip to Scotland, a new found love of anything Scottish prevailed. She spent many weekends traveling to Scottish games to watch her granddaughters dance and listen to the bagpipes. She even spent a week at camp learning how to make kilts. Betty could also be seen reenacting the War of 1812 in Sacket Harbor, NY with her family.

Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and especially her grandchildren! She was always ready to go to lunch, take a trip, or go for ice cream. She leaves a great legacy for her family to enjoy your passions, have fun, and spend time with those you love. She will be missed dearly and forever in our hearts.
