Charles Conaughty, 71, of Auburn, passed away on October 5, 2024. Born in Auburn on February 18,1953, Charles was the son of the late Paul and Betty (McQueeney) Conaughty. He was a lifelong resident of Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School in 1971. Charles went on to attend Auburn Community College earning an associate's degree 1973. He was employed with Carrier Air conditioning for 30 years. Charles was member of the Utopia Club, Ancient Order of the Hibernians, and the American Legion. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church for many years. Charles was also a proud member of the International Association of Sheet Metal Workers Union. He was a man about town, who loved Auburn and all the dogs in the city. He was a loving father, devoted husband, and a cherished brother. Always there for a friend or stranger in need. He loved travelling to Florida every March to watch spring training and spend time with his son. His perfect day was 85 degrees, with a cold drink, a crossword book, the radio on and watching the world go by.
Charles is survived by his son, Christopher Conaughty of Florida; his sister, Janice Conaughty (Thomas Falicchio) of Auburn and his brother, Donald (Linda) Conaughty of Georgia; sisters in law, Anna (Art) Forbes of Cato, Katherine (Larry) Kent of Weedsport, Frances Malys, of Kinderhook, Arlene (Donald) Stock of Clinton, Shirley (William) Stock of Auburn, and brothers in law, Peter Fatcheric of Auburn, and Joseph Fatcheric of Auburn.
In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Sharon (Fatcheric) Conaughty in 2017.
Calling hours for Charles will be held on Wednesday, October 9th from 4pm - 7pm in White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church on Thursday at 10:30am with interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Auburn. Family and friends are welcome to join together at the Hibernians, 79 VanAnden Street, Auburn at 1pm for a gathering to continue to celebrate Charles.
