Dale Smith Obituary

Dale G. Smith, 91 of Port Byron passed away on August 6, 2025 at Upstate University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Dale was born in Flintstone, Maryland on July 9, 1934 to Walter Smith and Rena Helmer Smith, and grew up in Montezuma.

Dale was a loving husband and father who cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a great storyteller who kept us laughing and intrigued. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Dale was a skilled craftsman and especially enjoyed woodwork, making several custom bowls, vases, tables, and many other things; too numerous to mention. He loved the outdoors and was often found in his vegetable and flower gardens.

Dale proudly served with the United States Navy from July, 1951 to June, 1954. Until his retirement in 1992, he was employed with the New York State Conservation Department at Howland's Island, Game Management Area. Dale loved working with animals and often said, "If you enjoy what you do, it's not work."

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Bonnie Lytle Smith; daughters Laura Everdyke (Brian) and Wendy Giacona (Alan); grandchildren Brandon Everdyke (Chelsea), Brooke Crittenden (Will), Abbie Giacona and Jessica Giacona; great grandchildren Samantha Crittenden and Lainey and Lindey Everdyke; sisters Joann Breen, Beverly Fratangelo (Nick), Pamela Tallman, and Vickie Smith; brothers Harold Smith (Sandra) and Rodney Smith (Bobbie); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dale is predeceased by sisters Delores Townsend, Charlotte Spellman and Sandra DeLeo Rogers.

There will be no calling hours, per his request.

A Memorial Service will take place at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Waterloo, NY, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
