Daniel Gilfilian Obituary

Daniel M. Gilfilian, 72, formerly of State Street, Auburn, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024 in the Commons on St. Anthony. A life resident of Auburn, Dan was born October 26, 1951, the son of the late Stanley and Julie Knapp Gilfilian. He was a graduate of Auburn's West High School, Class of 1970 and following graduation, he joined the United States Navy and faithfully served until he was honorably discharged in 1974. Once out of the service, Dan attained his Associate's Degree from Cayuga Community College in 1976. He was employed with Auburn Steel/NUCOR of Auburn and was an active member and Past Commander of the SK Post 1324 of the American Legion, as well as a member the VFW Post 1975. Dan always enjoyed attending their clambakes and functions.

 

He is survived by his daughter Maggie Wilson (Tom); son Brian Gilfilian; brothers Robert (Mary), Stanley, John and William; sisters Kathleen Wild (David) and Susan Capeder; two grandchildren Elizabeth and Vincent; and several nieces and nephews. 

 

In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by one brother Kenneth Gilfilian. 

 

Calling hours will be conducted Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, in the White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn. A memorial service, with military honors, will be celebrated following calling hours at 6:00 pm. 

 

Contributions may be made in memory of Dan to the American Legion or VFW.
