David R. Greene

David Rockwell Greene passed away unexpectedly on February 12th, 2024 at the age of 88. David had lived at Unity House’s group home in Union Springs since 2003.

David loved his housemates and staff. He enjoyed trains, spending time with his girlfriend Kathy, shopping online, and going out into the community with his peers. For David, going to day-hab was a highlight of his day, and an occasional visit to the Thrifty Shopper in Auburn made him happy. He got a kick out of acting goofy, putting on a big smile to make others laugh.

In May 2020, in the early days of COVID, David celebrated his 85th birthday. Members of the Union Springs Fire Department, along with Unity House staff and friends, put on a parade in David’s neighborhood, driving by his home and presenting him with balloons and other goodies. He appreciated authority figures and frequently dressed up as a sheriff. David loved a good cup of coffee every morning and a beautiful sunrise.

He will be greatly missed by his friends at Unity House. No public services are planned. Burial will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica, NY. Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn.
