David R. Welch

David Richard Welch, 65, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026 after a brief stay at Francis House in Syracuse. He was surrounded by his three loving sisters.

David was born in Auburn on October 23, 1960 to the late Richard and Patricia Stapleton Welch and was a graduate of SUNY at Plattsburgh. He put his degree in Hospitality and Restaurant Management to good use working in various colleges and restaurants in the Northeast. He retired in the fall of 2020 from his most recent position as Food Service Administrator at Cayuga Correctional Facility. Nicknamed "Jabber", David enjoyed his retirement playing golf with family and friends. We heard plenty of stories from his annual Myrtle Beach golf trip with the guys. He was also an avid and very loyal Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Vikings and Boston Bruins fan. David's big beautiful blue eyes and infectious smile was the life of any party he was at. His generosity with friends and family was unmatched.

He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ellen (Tom) Corcoran of Owasco, Kathy (Robert) Vigue of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Anne LoBello of Baldwinsville. He treasured every moment with his eight nieces and nephews, Brian, Erin and Matthew Corcoran, Alex and Lauren Vigue, and Maggie, Emily and Jacob LoBello. David is also survived by many cousins. We are especially grateful for cousin John Kelly, who was like a brother to David in every way. He is also survived by Aunt Liz Secaur.

In addition to his parents, David is predeceased by Aunt Peggy and Uncle Bob Kelly, Uncle Bob Welch and Aunt Marlene Welch and Uncle Jerry Secaur.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at HOA in Auburn who provided treatment and counsel to him all along the way of his difficult journey. We would especially like to thank Francis House. While he was not there long, the caring, dignity, prayers and devotion that the entire team provided around the clock made it possible for us to be with him totally in his final days. We will always be grateful to them.

Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered at 12:00 pm Thursday, April 23, 2026 St. Alphonsus Church. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours for David will be conducted prior to mass, from 10:00 to 12:00 pm in the church.
