Donald W. Lukins, 83, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024, at Auburn Community Hospital. Born in Auburn on October 1,1940, Donald was the son of the late Sidney and Leah (Wilcox) Lukins. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1958 and proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1959-1963. Don was owner and operator of the Central Exterminating Company for 60 years and was often referred to as the "Bug Man". He, along with his wife Sylvia, were communicants of Holy Family Church for many years. Don coached baseball, CYO basketball, and was a leader and role model for many youths through the Boy Scouts of America. He thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent involved with the scouts and the many friendships he made over the years. Don was an avid outdoorsman. Whether it was hunting, fishing, camping or scouting, these were all hobbies he truly enjoyed.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sylvia Lukins; his daughters, Kathy Orasi and Melanie Wetmore; his sons, Steve (Lori) Lukins and Chris (Sharon) Lukins; his sisters, Jeanne Reeck and Barbara Kulle; his grandchildren, David Orasi, Krystin Orasi, Danielle Orasi, Taylor Lukins, Haley Lukins and Caitlyn Wetmore; his great grandchildren, Kyleigh Orasi, Adelise Orasi, Carson Orasi, Quinn McDougle and Enzo McDougle, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his beloved dog, Nicki.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Finger Lakes Center for Living for the care, concern and love they provided Don during his stay. Also, a thank you to the staff at Auburn Community Hospital, who provided Don with care and compassion during his final hours.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 18th from 12pm - 2pm in White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South Street, Auburn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10am in Holy Family Church, Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, Donald's family strongly requests donations be made to the Finger Lakes Center for Living, Activity Department, 20 Park Avenue, Auburn, NY 13021.
