Donald Nye Obituary

It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald S. Nye, 71, the husband of Michele Nye of Moravia.  He unexpectedly passed away Saturday, February 6th.

Born August 1, 1949 in Auburn, to the late Stanley and Betty Nye, Don was a lifelong resident of Moravia and a 1967 high school graduate of Moravia Central High School. Starting in high school, Don worked for his father and Bob Aldrich’s trucking company, Aldrich and Nye. In 1980, Don and his brother bought the business.  Their hard work and dedication has built, ALNYE Trucking, one of the largest milk hauling businesses in the North East. They also haul petroleum products throughout New York State.

Don lived life to the fullest. His passion was his family and business, but when time allowed he enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends, riding motorcycle, playing slots and loved a good game of pitch.  He loved entertaining friends and family and telling stories. Don's distinct laugh and wittiness always put a smile on everyone’s face.  He has touched so many hearts with his kindness and generosity.  Don was a leader and mentor to many, and his loved ones will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Don was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Ithaca as well as a 40 year Masonic member of the Sylvan Lodge.

Don cared deeply for his family.  Don and his wife, Michele, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  They have three children and eight grandchildren.  In addition to his loving and caring wife Michele, Don is survived by one daughter Nanette Nye-Rutledge and her husband Billy of Owasco; two sons Brian and his wife Johanna of Moravia and Brad and his wife Julia of Summerhill; brother  Gary Nye and his wife  Bonnie of Locke; three sisters Karen Sharpsteen and her husband Steve of Rome, Diana Nye of FL and Denise Nye of Moravia; eight grandchildren Shane, Kelsey and Kaden Rutledge, Alexa and Drew Nye and Violet, Wyatt and Xander Nye; and several nieces and nephews.  Don also leaves behind countless friends, dedicated employees and business associates.

Due to the pandemic, a private family service and burial will be held.  The family will hold a celebration of life gathering when it is safe to do so.  Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn. Contributions may be made in memory of Don to Four Town Ambulance, 109 Main St., Moravia, NY 13118.
