Donna M. Scanlon, 85 of Weedsport, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, following a short stay at Francis House in Syracuse. Donna was born June 16, 1938 in Tweed, Ontario to Frederick and Bernadette Rashotte.
Donna graduated from Tweed Hungerford High School and went on to become a registered nurse in Peterborough, Ontario. She moved to California to practice nursing and that is where she met her husband of 60 years, James Scanlon. They moved to Weedsport in 1967 where she dedicated her life to raising her family and volunteering in the community.
She was a devoted parishioner of St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Weedsport, where she served as Altar Rosary President, teaching religious education, singing in the choir, and also serving as a parishioner for over 50 years. She generously gave of her time visiting the homebound and always praying for those in need. Over the years she worked at Weedsport Central Schools as a nurse and substitute teacher. She was an avid photographer and has dozens of photo albums of the people she loved. She enjoyed her time spent with family and friends, especially celebrating holidays and happy hour. Donna will be remembered for her positive attitude and her one liner sayings that she had for every occasion.
She is survived by her husband James, her children; Theresa Ferro (David), Michael Scanlon (Teresa), Craig Scanlon, John Scanlon and Maureen Ellner (Michael). Her grandchildren Frederick, Margaret, Alexander, Jaqueline, Mark, Ryan, Lexi, Hannah and Brooke.
She is predeceased by her siblings Anne, Craig, and Barry as well as her grandson Chase Scanlon.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered Saturday, May 11 at 12:00 pm in St. Joseph's Church, 2667 Hamilton Street, Weedsport 13166. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Weedsport. Calling hours for Donna will be conducted prior to the mass, from 10 to 12pm in the church. Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home, Weedsport.
