Douglas Jay Gilfus, 70, of Union Springs, passed away on February 16, 2026, at St. Josephs Hospital in Syracuse. Born in Auburn on August 24, 1955, Douglas was the son of the late Gerald and Almina Holbein Gilfus. He was employed for many years at the Milliken Station Power Plant in Lansing NY as a welder and electrician. Douglas was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and maintaining a beautiful garden. Above all, Douglas was a family man. He loved family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Douglas is survived by his children, Danielle (Jose Reyes) Gilfus and Scott (Kristen) Gilfus; his siblings, Deborah, Donald, James, Barbara and Katherine; his grandchildren, Skylar and Wyatt Gilfus, Ella Jean Gilfus and Jose, Jaden and Jayla Reyes.
In addition to his parents, Gerald and Almina, Douglas was predeceased by his son, Benjamin Gilfus in 2023, and his stepmother, Barbara DeForrest Gilfus and his brother Patrick Gilfus.
Calling hours for Douglas will be held on Saturday, February 28th, from noon-2pm in White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn NY.
