Frederick "Fred" Gunnip Obituary

Frederick A. Gunnip, 60 of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023 in Upstate Medical Center. Born April 2, 1963, he was the son of Hildegard Gobel Gunnip and the late Francis Gunnip. A painter by trade, Fred was self-employed for many years.

Fred loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar in his home. He also loved stand-up comedy and sweets. His true passion, however, was his unwavering loyalty to Syracuse University basketball and football. Any conversation with Fred would include his take on the team.

Including his mother Hildegard, Fred is survived by his children; daughters Sarah Holzhauer (Mark) of Camillus and Amy Bonaventura of MA; son Michael Gunnip of Mattydale; brothers Frank Gunnip (Treva) of AK and James Gunnip (Liz) of Elbridge; sister Bridgette Whitford (Grant) of Elbridge; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Fred is predeceased by one sister Patty Stevenson.

As per Fred’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn.
