Gene F. Ward, 78 of Moravia, died October 26, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on July 31, 1945 at Fort Benning, GA, Gene was the daughter of the late Eugene and Dorothy Snyder Fleming. Shortly after she was born, her family moved to Danville, PA, where she graduated from high school in 1963. Gene attended Bloomsburg State College where she met her husband, Jeffery Ward. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Speech Therapy, Gene took a job as a speech therapist for BOCES and served the Moravia and Southern Cayuga School Districts. In 1977, Gene, along with her husband, decided to run the family business, Ward Trucking, Inc., in Auburn, where they moved in 1979 with their 2 daughters. Gene and Jeff sold Ward Trucking in 1989 and moved to Selkirk, NY where she was an Administrative Assistant at Hudson Valley Paper in Albany, until her retirement in 2005.

Gardening was one of Gene’s passions. In 2007, Gene became a Master Gardener. For the last 10 years, Gene and Jeff have enjoyed their retirement at their home in Moravia and sharing their time with family and friends in Mission, TX during the winter months.

Gene is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jeffery Ward; daughters Adrianne (Rick) Hertel and Amy (Scott) Jones; grandchildren Morgan (Todd) Parton, Dawson Bell, Tanner Jones and Riley Jones; brother Peter (Bobbi) Fleming, sister Ann (Harold) Hust; sister-in-law Charleen Dygert; sister-in-law Betsielane Ward Sullivan; and many cousins, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Eugene and Dorothy Fleming.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn.
