George Jennings III Obituary

George L. Jennings, III, 89, passed away March 29, 2025, at the Commons in Auburn, NY.

Born in Syracuse, George was the eldest son of George and Elsie Jennings.  He was a 1955 graduate of H.W. Smith Technical & Industrial HS and employed by Western Electric/AT&T from 1958 until his retirement in 1989.  He was a proud member of the Marine Corp and Army National Guard for 36 years.   In retirement, George continued to work for REL Tec and the Pro Shop at Silver Creek Golf Course in Waterloo where he also walked 18 holes a day.   He was a National and State Archery Champion and instructor. 

George was predeceased by his cherished wife of 63 years, Beverly, in 2021, and six siblings.   

He is survived by two sons, George L. Jennings IV (Melanie), and William Jennings, seven grandchildren Chad Bodner, Amanda Jennings, Amy (Jeffrey) Tillmon, Jessie (Brandon) Jennings, George Jennings V, and Skyler Jennings, along with his adored great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. 

George was a shining example of unconditional love, patience and devotion.  He and Beverly were staples at any family event, camera and ziti in hand.  He had a delightful sense of humor and a brilliant mind.

This great man will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and anyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path. 

In accordance with George’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.  A private graveside burial will take place April 17th. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of George may be made to the Port Byron American Legion, John Cool Post 257, PO Box 61, Port Byron, NY 13140.
