Gerard "Jerry" F Secaur

Gerard Francis Secaur (Jerry) passed away on December 22, 2023 with his family at his side at the Commons. He was born on February 13, 1936, and lived in Auburn, New York his entire life. He was a graduate of Central High School where he played football and basketball and was inducted into the Auburn High School Hall of Fame in 2009. He also attended Cayuga County Community College and graduated with an Associates Degree and played basketball. He then served his country honorably in the United States Army.

Jerry retired as a Sergeant at Auburn Correctional Facility after 31 years of service. After his retirement, he served as a Cayuga County Legislator. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians (where he proudly wore his “World’s Tallest Leprechaun” pin on every St. Patrick’s Day) and Highland Park Golf Club. In his formative years, he was a regular at the famous Y-Field, playing sports and making life-long friends. After his playing days were over, Jerry enjoyed watching his sons play numerous sports and was a loyal Syracuse University fan. He also enjoyed annual trips with Liz to New Smyrna Beach, Florida and weekly breakfasts in Auburn with “The Liars’ Club.”

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Mary E. (Liz) Secaur, his three sons, Mark (Rosanne) of Malverne, New York; Tom (Jen) of Scituate, Massachusetts; and Kevin (Samantha) of Holliston, Massachusetts, and his eight grandchildren Jack, Emmett, Caroline, Colleen, Joe, Allie, Connor, Stone and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Anne Secaur; his sister Peg Bennett (Tom); his brother Edward Secaur (Ann); his sister-in-law Peg Kelly (Bob); and sister-in-law Pat Welch (Dick).

The family would like to thank all the staff for their special care and love that was shown to Jerry during his stay at the Commons.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South Street, Auburn, NY. Jerry’s Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at Sacred Heart Church, 90 Melrose Road, Auburn, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 6020 Lake Avenue, Auburn. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry or St. Jude's Hospital.
