Henry Zimmer Obituary

Henry E. Zimmer, 86, of Weedsport passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, at Matthew House in Auburn. Born in Auburn on June 20, 1938, Henry was the son of the late Earl and Anna (Lewis) Zimmer. He graduated from Weedsport High School in 1956 earning the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Award. After graduating Henry went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Marine Corps. Henry retired from General Electric and Lockheed Martin after 38 years in the Research and Development Lab. 

Henry was active throughout his life. He enjoyed many activities including wood carving, cross country skiing with his wife and downhill skiing with his children and grandchildren   When his children were younger he was both a Boy Scout leader for his son and a Girl Scout leader for his daughters.  In his retirement Henry was a member of the Syracuse and Auburn table tennis clubs. He competed in the Empire State Senior Games in table tennis and cycling. As a cyclist he participated in many team triathlons his favorite being The Great Race competing until age 82. Henry loved his family dearly. A proud grandfather he loved spending time with his grandchildren and supported their music, art and sporting event's. Henry will always be remembered as a remarkable man. Every holiday season his family will remember his scientific and meticulous method of making delicious fudge.  This family tradition will continue because he graciously taught his granddaughters his techniques. 

Henry is survived by his loving wife Marie Blundell Zimmer; his children, Gregory Zimmer, Melissa Zimmer Savitz and Hilary Zimmer-Brown (Bruce); grandchildren, Timothy Savitz, Bethany Brown and her husband Brandon Ly, Christopher Brown and Liza Brown; step grandchildren, Steven and Kelly Brown. In addition to his parents Henry was predeceased by a granddaughter Caroline Savitz; his brothers Fredrick, John and Joseph and his sister Christine Bailey. 

Henry's family would like to extend their gratitude to Matthew House for the exceptional care they provided Henry during his stay. 

There will be no calling hours or funeral services as per Henry’s wishes.
