J. Edward Murray, 98, of the Town of Niles, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024, at Auburn Community Hospital. Ed was born July 28, 1926, in Auburn, NY, the son of Cornelius Murray and Frances Murphy. He was a farmer all of his life, except for his service in the United States Navy from November 28, 1944 - December 21, 1945.
He was a charter member of the Moravia VFW Post 7127 in Moravia. Ed worked on his father's farm until he purchased his own farm through a GI loan on March 29, 1951, and increased the farm over the years. In the beginning of his farming years, he worked off the farm as well. He also found time to discuss farming practices and advice from neighboring farmers.
Ed's enjoyment was working the land and hunting. He provided many venison meals for the family. When he retired, he took up fishing as a hobby and was able to do some traveling, while still managing the farm.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Evelyn; children, William, Gail (Gary) and Patrick (Ursula); grandchildren, Corry, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Ryan, and Adrienne, ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and his brother, Joe (Charlene).
He was predeceased by his sister, Correne and his three brothers, William, Neil and Jeremiah.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 17th at 11am in St. Joseph's Cemetery, 6020 Lake Ave, Auburn, NY 13021.
