James J. Covert

James J. Covert, 82 of Stryker Homes, Auburn passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026 in Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. Born July 22, 1943 in Auburn, he was the son of the late Chester and Helen Sweet Covert and lived most of his life in the area. James was employed with, and retired from, the Cayuga County Jail as a Correction Officer following 20 years of service. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as the occasional trip to the casino. 

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Covert; daughter Danielle Kinnaman (Kenneth); three granddaughters Kara, Krista and Erin Kinnaman; one brother Chester Covert (Jean); one sister Sally Starowicz; his companion Nancy Goodrich and her son Randy; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James is predeceased by two brothers Richard and Fredrick; and one sister Susan Trachimowicz. 

Per James' wishes, there are no services scheduled at this time. Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., Auburn.
