James E. McConnell, 80, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at Albany Medical Center. Jim was born in Auburn, NY on March 11, 1943, to Joseph and Edna Wild McConnell.
Jim was employed as a custodian for over 20 years at St. Alphonsus and then spent 25 years working for the City of Auburn. Jim was a former 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of CSEA Union and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was an avid Doubledays fan and enjoyed attending the games over the years. As a resident at Northbrook Heights, Jim was involved in the numerous activities held there at the facility.
Jim is survived by his son Matthew (Katie) McConnell; siblings Mary Oakley, Theresa Powers,
Walter McConnell, Gregory McConnell, and Joseph McConnell Jr, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and extended families. Jim was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Ann Marie Caci, Adrienne Fennessy, and Joan Lull, William, Patrick, Robert, Michael, and Donald.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 25th from 4-7pm at White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South St Auburn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30am on Friday in St. Alphonsus Church, 85 East Genesee St. Auburn. Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A repast will be held following the burial at a location to be determined.
