James "Jim" Toole Obituary

James "Jim" Toole, 84, the husband of the late Anne Decker Toole, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 in Auburn Community Hospital. Born January 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Paul and Helen Bergan Toole and was a lifelong resident of Auburn, and a graduate of East High School. Before it's closure, Jim was employed as a foreman with Sylvania of Seneca Falls. He then worked and was a fixture for many years at Sears in the Finger Lakes Mall, before retiring.  Jim was an avid sports fan, supporting Syracuse Athletics, the Clevland Browns and the New York Mets, to name a few. Throughout his life, he loved the Drum Corps, playing the French Horn as a member of the Geneva Apple Knockers and the Syracuse Brigadiers. Jim was a beloved member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, JFK Div. 1 of Auburn, and could be found there in conversation during their infamous "Toole Tuesdays". His quick wit and ability to playfully harass, were only a few great qualities Jim possessed. Though he was unable to serve, he was a proud American and faithfully supported all Veteran causes. Above all else, Jim loved his family and cherished every minute he was able to spend with them.

He is survived by his children; daughters Michelle Major and Maureen Brown (Dan); sons Brien Toole (Melanie) and Sean Toole (Nicole); six grandchildren Molli Brown, Kevin Brown, Liam Major (Bryana), Kiernan Major, Cameron Toole (Richard) and Declan Toole; great granddaughter Kaitlynne; close companion Nancy Carmody; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and loving wife Anne, Jim is predeceased by two brothers Joseph and Terry Toole; and son in law John Major Jr.

Friends are invited to join the family for a Funeral Mass to be offered at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 21, 2025 in St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours for Jim will be conducted Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn.

The Toole family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Finger Lakes Center for Living and Auburn Community Hospital, 3rd Memorial, for the tremendous love, dignity and care shown toward Jim during his time there.
