Janet E. (Houghton) Somerville

Janet E. Somerville, 97 of Auburn, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025 in the Commons on St. Anthony. Born in Auburn, NY on August 29, 1927, Janet was the daughter of the late Ralph and Bessie (Drake) Houghton. On her 19th birthday, August 29, 1946 she married the love of her life, John B. Somerville. That was the start of their beautiful life together. 

Janet was a lifelong member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Auburn. She was an avid card player and enjoyed hosting card games at her house, along with many other family gatherings. During the nice weather, you could always find Janet on her front porch laughing with family and friends. She had a love for her cats and dogs; they were her babies. Above all, Janet loved being around her family. 

Janet is survived by her children, David (Sherry) Somerville, Nancy Rose, Cindy (Leo) Major, and Ruth Bishop; her grandchildren, Amanda Clark, Maureen Paur, Ryan Major, Jeffrey Rose and Aaron Bishop; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband John B. Somerville; son-in-law, Brad Bishop; her great grandson, Bradley Clark; siblings, Donald Houghton, Alice O'Grady and Dorothy Rugar. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00pm, with a memorial service to immediately follow at 4:00 pm, all in the White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. Private burial in Soule Cemetery, will be held at the convenience of the family.
