John Lawler Obituary

John F. Lawler of Auburn passed away April 19, 2025, at Auburn Community Hospital after a brief illness.  He was surrounded by his loving family. 

John was born in Auburn on January 4, 1932, to the late Raymond J. and Florence Brennan Lawler. 

He graduated from Holy Family High School in 1949 and went on to proudly serve our country in the Strategic Air Command with the United States Air Force from 1951-1955.

After 28 years of employment, he retired from the NYS Corrections Department. John was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. John loved to be outdoors and regularly explored the Finger Lakes region with his children and grandchildren.  He was a voracious reader and loved to travel. Anyone who met him, enjoyed his quick wit and easy-going personality.  His favorite activity was spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

 John is survived by June Lawler, and their children; Anne (Richard) Currier, Susan (Bernie) Guzewicz, Michael Lawler and Kathleen Lawler; nine grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Lorraine Lawler Cullen; a niece and a nephew.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his two sons Peter and Robert Lawler.

 Visitation will be held Thursday, April 24th from 3 to 6 PM in White Chapel Funeral Home 197 South St. Auburn

A funeral mass will be held 1PM on Friday, April 25th in St. Mary's Church, Auburn. Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

 In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society
