John Mauro Obituary

It is with many tears and countless stories that we announce the passing of John Mauro, 71 on June 3, 2024. Born January 5, 1953, he was predeceased by his mother, Rose Tata, father John Mauro, and brother Billy Mauro. John left the way he loved to live, surrounded by his family.

John was like no other and his stories were as legendary as the man himself. He was the title character in many adventures: a high school sweetheart turned husband of over 40 years, a supportive father of three, a spirited grandfather, and a lifelong brother. He grew up in Auburn’s west end on Woodlawn Ave where he honed his love of sports, literature, forged lifelong friendships, and crafted his inimitable personal charm. He created a successful jewelry business that he operated for nearly five decades where his clients were overjoyed not only with his skill and tutelage, but with his stories and life lessons. Fashioning himself as a Renaissance man, John had many talents: he soared on the basketball court and blazed around the track, dazzled on the piano, recited science fiction at length, and answered trivia with moderate accuracy.

John’s dedication to his family marked the chapters of his life. As a boy, he was dutifully supportive of his parents, brother, and sisters. Later in life, he was smiling his broadest, singing, and drumming when his friends and family joined him at the dining room table. At night, you could find John sitting by the pool, gazing at the moon, dreaming of what lived amongst the stars.

John is survived by his loving wife, Ronayne Herbert, three children: Leah Guerrette (Ryan Guerrette), Jenny Searcy (Jason Searcy), Johnny Mauro (Kaitlin Mauro); five grandchildren: Maya, Jackson, Cora, and Reese, and grandson-to-be; two adoring sisters, Mary Mauro Bertolo (James Bertolo) and Peggy Egan (Dan Egan); favorite cousin Kiki Impaglia; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Calling hours will be conducted Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 2 to 5pm in the White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn. A private funeral service, followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, will be held at the convenience of the family.
