Joyce M. Cuskey, 76, formerly of Syracuse passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in the Commons on St. Anthony. Born in Auburn on Christmas Day, 1946, she was the daughter of the late George and Louise Young Cuskey, and a graduate of Auburn's Central High School. A communicant of Holy Family Church, Joyce was employed with various local retail stores, and retired as a clerk with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Syracuse.
Joyce was a gentle and kind soul with a sweet disposition. She had a love for animals and had a natural green thumb; her plants always thrived. She enjoyed all types of music, especially listening to Barry Manilow. Her late sister Carol shared a collection of taped movies that she loved to watch and always enjoyed snacks of potato chips and popcorn while doing so. Joyce cherished the time she had with her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and her entire family. She had no children of her own but was a wonderful godmother and aunt.
She is survived by two brothers, Deacon Thomas Cuskey (Angela) and John Cuskey (Madeline); brothers-in-law Richard Beauchine and Robert Steigerwald; and several loving and adoring nieces and nephews: James Steigerwald, Kristin McKee, Kathryn Baim, Michele Collins, Jeffrey and Holly Beauchine, Sarah Bentley, Sean and Michael Cuskey, Hannah Bliss, Heather Cuskey and Kimberly Hughes. In addition to her parents, Joyce is predeceased by her two sisters and best friends Sharon Steigerwald and Carol Beauchine.
The family wishes to thank the 6th floor staff of the Commons at St. Anthony for their loving care of Joyce during her final days.
Private funeral services for Joyce will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn.
