Joyce F. Kalar

Joyce F. Kalar, 83, of Cato passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, April 26, 2024, at The Commons in Auburn. Joyce was born in Syracuse on January 16, 1941, the daughter of the late John and Madeline Esposito. Joyce spent 37 years driving bus for Cato Meridian School. This was more than a job for Joyce, she truly loved the kids she drove, she cared for them and enjoyed hearing about their day. 

Joyce was a Volunteer Lifetime Member EMT for Cato Ambulance/CIMVAC and a member of both the Cato Fire Department and Victory Fire Department. She would help anyone in need without hesitation. 

Joyce had a love for horses; she loved riding and never missed a horse show that her children were in. Everyone that knew Joyce knew she was famous for her whistle, whether it was for the kids on the bus, her own children or even at the nursing home. Her whistle could get anyone's attention.  

Joyce is survived by her children, Susan (Peter) VanDitto of Throop, Ralph J. Kalar Jr. of FL, Joan/Honey (Joe) Colella of Auburn, Cynthia Kalar (John Gridley) of Cato and Joanne (Michael) Tyler of NC, her beloved grandchildren, Stephanie, Dylan (Allyson), Derek (Britney), Dustin (Emily) and Anthony; several great-grandchildren; brother Marty (Jane) Esposito, Joe Novello, whom Joyce loved like a son; her dog, Xander. 

In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband Ralph J. Kalar Sr. in 2012; her brother Joseph Esposito; and her dog, Petey.

The family would like to thank the LPN Nurses and CNA Nursing Aides at The Commons for their compassionate care.  

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 5th from 11am-2pm with a service to immediately follow at 2pm all in White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Dr. Weedsport.
