Kenneth LeRoy Balch, 89, of Weedsport, NY passed away peacefully on Sept 24, 2024, at home with his family by his side.

Ken was born on April 28,1935, in Hudson, NY, son of the late Ernest and Myrtle Balch of Weedsport, NY.

He graduated from Weedsport High School where he was voted most musical. Ken went on to attend Houghton College and the Naval School of Music. He sang in the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters. Ken was a piano tuner/technician, and taught organ privately at his music studio in Silver Spring MD. He was a life member of the Weedsport United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including the organist/Choir Director for 28 years.

Ken established the Weedsport Community Band, which he directed for many years. He was an avid organic gardener and lover of nature.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Balch; his sons, Kevin Balch and Jeffrey (Donna) Balch; his daughter, Kristen (Jock) Hale; his siblings, Joyce Shurtleff, James Balch, Betsy Waterman, Mary Hopson and Donald (Lynne)Balch; granddaughters, Miriam Gallifant and Naomi Hale; and 3 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the volunteers at the Weedsport Fire Department for their incredible service to Ken in recent months.

Donations can be made in Kenneth's name to the First United Methodist Church of Weedsport or the Weedsport Volunteer Fire Department.

A memorial service will be celebrated at the First United Methodist Church in Weedsport on Saturday, October 19th at 11am.
