Lynn L. Walter, 82, of Auburn, passed away on September 14, 2025, in his home surrounded by loved ones. Born in Auburn, NY on May 6, 1943, Lynn was the son of the late Harold and Carolyn Walter. He was a life member of the Aurelius Fire Department and previously served as Fire Chief and Cayuga County Investigator. Until his passing, he was the oldest living member of the department. Lynn was employed by O’Hara Farms for over 50 years. After his retirement, he worked for Sharon Farms, Morse-Collins Lightning Protection, and most recently, the Owasco Country Club. He enjoyed watching the Yankees, spending time with family, hunting, trips to the casino, and working outdoors. Above all, Lynn had a kind heart and would help anyone in need.
Lynn is survived by his fiancée, Barbara Switzer; his children, Kelly Langtry, William “Slim” (Nancy) Walter, and Stacy (Gary) Crowley; his stepchildren, Catrina Mazzeo, Gregory (Maria) Mazzeo, and Alleyne (Pete) Clark; his siblings, Mildred Kilmer, Kent (Robin) Walter, and Neta Dodson; his grandchildren, Zachary, Felicia, Colton, Amanda, Ryan, Ellen, Amber, Daniela, Madyson, and Michael; his great grandchildren, Mara, Maverick, and Lily; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Lynn was predeceased by his sister, Harriett Switzer.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 18 from 4-6pm at White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South St., Auburn, NY 13021. A memorial service will follow at 6pm in the funeral home.
