Mary J. (Edwards) Williams

Mary J. Williams, 86, formerly of Weedsport, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 with family in Albany, NY.

Mary was born in 1938 to the late Alvin and Jean Edwards. Mary was a graduate of Central High School in Auburn in 1957. She was married to her loving husband, the late Robert G. Williams, for 59 years. She is survived by: their daughters Terri Rothfuss of Palmyra and Wendy (Peter) Berry of Albany, NY; grandchildren Timothy (Sarah) Hinman, Nicole Rothfuss, Jason (Christine) and Michael (Julia) Berry; great-grandchildren Ryan, Madison, Torsten, Jackson and Clark; beloved brothers William (Jan) and Donald (Pam) Edwards as well as several nieces and nephews.

Their lives were shaped by his career in the U. S. Navy. They lived on Guam during the Vietnam War. There, she began her lifelong passion for volunteering and community service by comforting injured soldiers and helping new families through the Wives Club. She continued to volunteer her time as a Girl Scout leader and Lifeguard for several years. Upon Bob’s retirement in 1975 they became involved in the American Legion as an outlet for their service. Mary rose through the ranks in the Auxiliary from the County, District and Department levels to the ultimate position of Department President for NYS. She was the first Auxiliary Department President from Cayuga County. Her favorite project was Empire Girls State educating the youth about government and citizenship. She also proudly participated in the Girls Nation program.

The light of her life the last few years was enjoying her great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Friday March 28, 2025 from 1 to 4 pm, with service to follow in the White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Dr., Weedsport, NY.
