Richard E. Rooker Sr., 75 of Port Byron, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 in the VA Hospital, Syracuse. Born in Auburn on June 16, 1949, he was the son of the late Frederick E. and Mary (Durr) Rooker. Richard was a Vietnam Veteran, having served proudly with United States Army for 21 years. During his time, he was awarded a Bronze Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and numerous others.
He thoroughly enjoyed cooking for his family and never missed any birthdays or events. He was known for his legendary eggrolls and waffles, to name a few of his specialties. Richard loved to camp, fish and take trips to the casino. Above all else, he loved his family and adored his late wife Virginia “Ginny” Rooker, who passed away February 14, 2024.
Richard is survived by one daughter, Carrie Bell (Scott); two sons, Richard Rooker Jr. (Debra York) and Timothy Rooker (Rose Bush); grandchildren, Scott, Christina (Clayton), Mariah, Catheryn (Gregory), Zachary, Jozeph, Alexander, Timothy and Jordan; Great grandchildren, Amelia, Maeve, Fianna, and Seamus; One brother Frederick; three sisters, Illa Bannon, Patricia Conlin (Bill) and Sarah Mapley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and his loving wife Ginny, Richard is predeceased by his sister Freida; and grandson, Richard Rooker III.
Calling hours will be conducted Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. Spring burial with military honors will take place in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Port Byron.
