Richard "Rick" J. Cathy

Richard J. "Rick" Cathy's life journey was completed with his family by his side on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the age of 86. Born June 16, 1937, in Lockport, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Irene Jefferds Cathy and was a resident of Port Byron.  He was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1955 to 1958. Together with his father-in-law Chan Norton, they started Norton & Cathy Roofing and Siding. Once Chan retired, Rick continued as Cathy Roofing and Siding until his retirement. He was a member of the Weedsport Rod and Gun Club and an avid Bowler, pool and card player. 

He is survived by two daughters Deborah Dennis (Don) and Dawn Gross (Robbie); siblings Arthur Cathy (Cely), Gertrude Bitz (Larry) and Shirley Shipley (Don); grandchildren Louis, Dawn, Andrea and Brian Giovannini, Jesse Dennis (Katherine), Sophie Riskie (Tim), and Danny Dennis; great grandchildren Emma, Ben, Anna, Tyler, Dominic, Annabella and Arianna; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his mother, Rick was predeceased by his brother’s Leonard Andres, Donald, Thomas and Marvin Cathy; and sisters Jeanett Cathy and Joan Neal. 

A calling hour will be conducted Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 1 to 2pm in the White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. A memorial service will begin at 2pm, with burial to follow in Weedsport Rural Cemetery.
