Robert Dixon Obituary

 

Robert F. Dixon, 88 of Auburn, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026 at the Commons on St. Anthony. Born in Auburn on July 2, 1937, he was the son of the late Harold Dixon and Betty Bush Dixon and a graduate of Central High School. Following high school, Robert served with the United States Marine Corps. from 1955 to 1958. He was employed for many years as a vending machine mechanic for Emca Vending in Auburn and later retired as a truck driver with JB Hunt, where his CB radio call sign was "Candy Man". In his younger years, the was a member of the Auburn Jaycees, he built soap box derby cars for his children to race, shot pool at Costello's and bartended at the Fisherman's Pier on Grant Avenue. Robert enjoyed golfing in leagues at Dutch Hollow Country Club, snowmobiling, watching Westerns, NASCAR and being out on Owasco Lake on his cabin cruiser. Following retirement, he spent much of his time with his wife while traveling in their RV all over the country. 

 

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey H. Dixon (Lisa), Robert L. Dixon (Barb), Brian T. Dixon and Joy Beth Dixon-Forgham (Tim); eight grandchildren, Elisha (Kent) Dixon Riester, Erica (Steve) Evans, Sarah Dixon, Cody (Jen) Forgham, Chelsea (Joe) Messina, Delaney (Humza) Dixon, Madison Dixon, Jenica Dixon;  8 great-grandchildren; brother David (Dottie) Dixon; sister-in-law June Dixon; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved puppy Toby.  

 

In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his first wife Dorthea "Bunny" Church Dixon; second wife Phyllis Pai Dixon; and brother Donald Dixon. 

 

Friends are invited to call on the family Monday, May 4, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00am with a service to follow at 11:00am in the White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South St., Auburn. Burial will be in Soule Cemetery. 

 

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Commons on Saint Anthony for the loving care shown toward Robert.
