Robert E. “Spider” Smithler, 69 of Weedsport, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. Born January 15, 1955 in Auburn, he was the son of the late Carl R. "Bob" and Audrey Wilson Smithler. Spider was a graduate of Weedsport High School, Class of 1973 and retired from ALCO following more than 30 years of faithful employment. He enjoyed watching old movies but loved anything to do with his motorcycle and his motorcycle clubs. Spider was originally a member of The Saints, but also the clubs Brothers Few, NightStalkers and a member in good standing with the Iron Horsemen. His family and closest friends were the members of these clubs.
He is survived by his loving wife Virginia "Ginny" Zimmerman Smithler; children Marci Lee Smithler and Edward R. Smithler (Stephanie); brothers Lyle Smithler (Theresa) and Scott Smithler (Sue); sisters Georgie Speck (Al) and Lynn Smith (Dale); twelve grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Spider was predeceased by one son Lonne Michael Smithler; and infant sister Star.
Friends are invited to call on the family Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. Burial, next to his son Lonne, will follow calling hours in Cato Union Cemetery.
