Ronald Oughterson Sr. Obituary

The Lord has brought home Ronald J. Oughterson Sr., Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2024. Ron was born on May 26, 1933 in Geneva, N.Y. His youth included time in Michigan and Auburn. After high school, he proudly served as a Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.  Ronnie believed and lived the motto, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." After Ron was discharged from the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Theresa D'Antonio, and settled in Auburn where they raised their three children. He then continued as the Commissioner of Cayuga County Memorial, USMC detachment for many years.

Ron was an active and faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Church and served on the Holy Name Society Council. He was also an ever-present usher at mass, along with being a Eucharistic Minister. He served our community as a Ward Supervisor and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His work life concluded at the age of 86 when he retired as the Cayuga County Civil Service Commissioner, a position he enjoyed for over 30 years. He devoted 29 years to Alco as a foreman for various sectors of the shop. In addition, Ron was an assistant at Cheche Funeral Home for many years. As a result of his involvement with public activities, Ron knew a lot of the community and had an endless number of friends.

In addition to his parents and four siblings, Ron was predeceased by Theresa, his wife of 55 years in 2012; two nephews Michael Feek and Edward Feek; and great nephew Christopher Feek.

He is survived by his daughters Cinde (Kris) Burritt and Cheri (Tim) Dygert; son "Skip"; grandchildren Roni-Leigh (Clay) Hefner, Kyle Burritt, T.J. (Carol) Dygert, Mallorie (Connor) Kilmer; and seven great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews; brother John Oughterson. Ronnie is also survived by his niece, Barb Feek, who was so much more than a niece. Barb was lovingly Ron and Theresa's lifeline, and full-time caregiver; allowing Ron to remain in his home until he went to meet the Lord.

Lastly, Ron leaves behind his pal, Milo, his beloved pet dog and companion. It was a lovely bond to witness.
