Ruth A. Armstrong, 96, of Auburn passed away peacefully at Auburn Community Hospital on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
She was born in Auburn, NY, the daughter of the late Leonard & Florence (Kurtz) Kimball and resided all her life in Auburn. As a child, Ruth grew up on Warren Avenue with her 6 brothers and sisters, all of whom she was extremely close with; she was a very family-oriented person. Later in her life, Ruth lived with her parents and was there to provide for their needs.
For many years she worked as a Health-Aid for residents living at the Boyle Center, Schwartz Towers, and Auburn Nursing Home. Ruth then began to work at Nalge Corporation where she met her late husband, Wilbur (Willie) Armstrong.
She loved to travel and go camping with Willie; the two of them spent winters in Florida. They parked their truck camper on Daytona Beach and in the summers, they camped in the Adirondack Mountains, particularly the Old Forge area. She loved nature and wildlife, especially birds and mountains. Nothing compared to the love she had for her family. She cherished many special times at family gatherings, appreciating these blessings.
In her senior years, Ruth lived at Standart Woods, the Boyle Center, Faatz-Crofut Home and Finger Lakes Center for Living, where she made a lasting impression on the hearts of several staff and residents. Ruth was a wonderful person with a very witty personality; anyone that knew her loved her. She loved life and she loved to laugh, play practical jokes on her husband and everything she did was done out of love.
She is survived by her niece, Lori Lee Hasty (Chris), of VA; Cheryl DeSocio (Jim); John Crook (Cindy); Charlene Hamberger (John) of Charlotte, NC; Dennis Cappello (Susan) of Hanahan, SC; Rich Kimball of Rochester, NY; Christine Braceras (Andrew) of Portland, ME; David Zink of Tampa, FL; Jack Zink of Hilton Head, SC; Kathy Lahr (Glen) of Holiday, FL, several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Jean Zink (John); Charlotte Cappello (Nick); Joan Crook (Paul) and brothers, George Kimball (Claire), Leonard “Butsy” Kimball (Mina), Richard Kimball (Jenny) and nephews, Michael Cappello, Keith Crook, Lenny Kimball, Jeffrey Zink, and great nephew, Nicholas DeSocio.
Following Ruth’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A private family graveside service will be held at Fort Hill Cemetery in June. Contributions may be made to the Finger Lakes Center for Living, 20 Park Avenue, Auburn, NY.
Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., Auburn.
