Samuel Hosier Obituary

Samuel Henry Hosier, born on April 14, 1927, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Sam was the son of the late John Henry Hosier of Locke and the late Bertha Mae Hoffman Hosier born in Pennsylvania. 

He was brother to the late John Hosier (1986), Helen Hosier Seitz (2016), Mary Hosier Fritz (2020) and Alma Zettlemyer (1997). He is survived by one sister, Leotta Hosier. 

Sam was married to the love of his life, Elsie C. (Walters) Hosier on September 24, 1955, in Athens, PA. They spent 63 years together before her passing on June 15, 2018. He is also predeceased by his daughter, Kathryn Allen and his grandsons Richard Gaffney and Thomas Lewis. Sam is survived by his son, Harold (Shelley) Lewis of Throop; his daughter, Beth Molloy of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Panek of Auburn, Carissa Gaffney of Auburn, Sammer Jean ( Dan) Bean, who is his namesake, of Sterling, Tim Gaffney of Auburn, Marcus Gaffney of Auburn and Sarah and Amy Lewis; his great grandchildren, Kronous Panek, Lily Panek, Sam Toth-Bean (also named after him),Raiden Panek, Sabriel Toth-Bean, Elliott Panek, Ryan Goodrow, Thistle “Georgi” Toth-Bean, Lataya Scott, Ruthy Bean, Aurie Gaffney, Henry Mcmillian, Delilah Mcmillian, D.C. Mcmillian; many nieces, nephews and even more great grand nieces and nephews. 

He worked at the following companies: Colombian Rope, N.S Hoffman, General Motor Plant in Syracuse, American Locomotive Co. (ALCO), where he worked for 34 years and retired in 1988. He also worked for Mr. Theodore Case, inventor of “Talkies” building Camp Casowasco. Sam was a veteran of WWII, stationed in Iceland with the Army Air Force and was also a veteran of the Korean War. Landing at Inchon on September 15, 1950, with the 7th infantry division and awarded 9 medals, one being the Korean service medal with a silver campaign star for being in five major campaigns. Sam also has three medals from the State of New York. The conspicuous service star, the medal for merit and a citation as a member of the Fleming #2 Fire Dept. signed by Gary Finch. 

Sam was a life member of Fleming #2 Fire Dept., the Cayuga County Fire Police Association, Auburn VFW Post 1975, the American Legion Post of Union Springs #1107.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 30th from 3pm - 6pm in White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn. Funeral services will be on Friday at 11am in the funeral home, with interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Cayuga. Friends and family are invited to join together at the Fleming Fire Dept, #2 to continue to celebrate Sam. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sam’s name to Fleming Fire House #2. Members are needed at the Fleming Fire Dept #2, if you wish to continue Samuel Hosiers legacy.
