Stewart "Jim" Mead, 81 of Elbridge, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at home with his loving wife at his side. Born January 17, 1945 in Auburn, the son of the late Stewart A. and Anne M. Walker Mead, Jim was a resident and graduate of Weedsport High School, Class of 1962. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, retired from Carrier Corp. following more than thirty years of faithful employment and was also an exempt member of the Weedsport Fire Department. An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing and coached Little League Baseball when his children were younger. A fan of NASCAR, he also loved to support his family's sports and music endeavors as well as take rides to visit local casinos.
He is survived by his wife Carol Joseph Mead; children Michael Devin, Kathy Fernau (Jason) and PJ Mead (Amy); stepchildren John Polmanteer (Tammy) and Cindy Smith (Ted); sisters Judy LaForce (Bob) and Kathy Radka; and several loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by one daughter Terry Devin; and sister Margaret "Peg" Peters.
Calling hours for Jim will be conducted Monday, April 6, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. A service will be held immediately at 1:00 pm, followed by interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Weedsport.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff of Hospice of CNY, especially Kim, for her exceptional, loving and compassionate care of Jim.
