Susan M. (Nicandri) Maurer

Susan Mary (Nicandri) Maurer, 77, of Venice, FL and formerly of Camillus, NY, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025.  

Susan was born and raised in Auburn, NY and was a proud graduate of Auburn East High School. She was a stellar athlete and won many tennis championships with her brother John throughout central New York. She graduated from SUNY Cortland, which began a lifelong devotion to education, including teaching and coaching positions at SUNY Morrisville, Liverpool, West Genesee and Marcellus School Districts.   

Susan adored being a mother. She was admired for her unbounded energy and steadfast love of the Lord, which resulted in the creation of memorable religious education programs.

Following her move to Venice, FL, she volunteered at the Loveland Center and for the Special Olympics, where she worked with individuals with special needs. Susan was also a proud member of the Legion of Mary at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and made incredible friends.   

Susan put God first in everything she did and made a point to share His love with everyone she met.  She loved the music of Neil Diamond, chocolate chip cookies, the beauty of the Adirondacks and her beloved dog, Peaches.  Grammie Sue cherished spending time with her grandchildren and found endless ways to make them smile and laugh.   

Susan was predeceased by her parents Carlo and Katherine Nicandri, and her siblings John and Barbara Nicandri. 

She is survived by her daughters Lindsay Orzel (David) of Keuka Park, NY and Carolyn Callahan (Michael) of Bethesda, MD; grandchildren Jackson and Joey Orzel and Clara and Betty Callahan; brother Stephen Nicandri (Trish) of Webster, NY; sister Lucy Nicandri (Richard Davis) of Sarasota, FL; sister-in-law Rebecca Nicandri (Auburn); and several nieces and nephews.

Family will be receiving guests from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21st at Holy Family Church , 127 Chapel Drive, Syracuse.  Susan's funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m.
