Suzanne MacKenzie Obituary

Suzanne Wager MacKenzie, 78, of Auburn, passed away on May 21, 2025, at Auburn Community Hospital after a long illness. A life well-lived and loved.

Born in Auburn on October 30, 1946, Suzanne was the daughter of the late Betty J. Miller Burroughs. She was previously employed with Sears as a sales associate. She and her husband had a family business called the Astoria Hotel in Union Springs in the 80's and 90's. When she was first married, she was a homemaker for many years raising her children. Suzanne was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed crafting. She was a great cook known for her decadent desserts and loved hosting family get togethers. Suzanne was also a talented 600 bowler and played on many leagues over the years with her husband and mother. Spending time at the lake brought her much joy. She could be found water skiing, boating or just laying in the sun, taking in the view of the lake. Suzanne loved to travel, especially anywhere warm and tropical. She was a treasurer of the reunion committee for the 1964 graduating class of West High. This was a role she thoroughly enjoyed and was very involved in the organization of the reunions, even hosting a reunion at her home. She would meet with classmates on occasion for lunches until she got sick. Above all, making memories spending time with her family made Suzanne the happiest.

Suzanne is survived by her husband, John Charles MacKenzie II - although legally separated for years, Jack and Suzanne were still close friends after their separation.  They maintained a strong friendship through their communication, respect, and long- lasting affection for each other for over 60 years.
Suzanne is also survived by her children, Tammy Faye MacKenzie and John Charles MacKenzie III; her grandchildren, Dylan Shutter and Connor MacKenzie; her sisters-in-laws; Peggy Kennedy, Jeanette Wager, Martha MacKenzie-Steele, Carol MacKenzie and Ann Pounds; her brothers-in-law, Aden MacKenzie and Rick Steele, along with many nieces and nephews and extended family as well as her life-long friend Kathy Chanko Hotaling and friends.

In addition to her mother, Betty Burroughs, Suzanne was predeceased by her brothers, Robert Wager, Donald Wager and Gary Wager.
There will be no services held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
