Thomas Maloney Obituary

Thomas L. Maloney, 78, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 26th, 2024. Born to Raymond & Esther (Walton) Maloney on December 22, 1946, in Syracuse NY. He was the unexpected last child of 8. He grew up in Baldwinsville and spent time playing basketball and going to Charleston Lake in Canada with his best friend, “Georgie”. He also spent many hours with his nieces Bonnie and Mary Louise and his nephew, Skipper. On August 19, 1972, he married Cynthia Loveless.

Tom joined the Air Force in 1966 and although he served as an aircraft mechanic mainly on Midway Island, he never set foot on a civilian aircraft after his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1970. He believed in working hard and felt everyone else should too. Whether it was his 1st job at Jack’s Reef mom and pop shop, farm work at a neighborhood farm, handling 50 lb. bags of calcium chloride at Allied Chemical, driving fork truck at Xerox, or driving bus for ARC or for the Port Byron School district. He officially retired from Xerox in 2002 and was thankful he no longer had to drive 90 miles a day, nor get up at 4 am.

He had a flair for interior design (or so he thought), loved traveling, country music, Doug’s Fish Fry, apple pie, candy, landscaping, attending church, Seinfeld, The Price is Right, Cheerios, his country (especially the state of Maine), and sarcasm. While he loved his wife, kids, and grandchildren, they’re pretty positive his love for anything with a steering wheel surpassed his love for them. While his family has lost track of the actual number of cars, trucks, ATV’s, RV’s, motorcycles, boats, and bicycles Tom owned, it’s safe to say that he was never bored looking for the next one to purchase. Some of his favorites were a 1962 red Corvette, a 1972 yellow Corvette Stingray, and a blue 1946 Willy’s Jeep. Both of his daughters would like to credit him with their speeding tickets over the years due to the excessive amount of lead in their right foot, that he had as well.

Tom was a great man and an even greater husband and father. His family will forever miss him, his sarcasm, and his fearlessness in vocalizing his opinions to anyone in his near vicinity.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cynthia, his 3 children, Elizabeth (Jeffrey), Andrew (Kim), and Holly (Craig), his 14 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents and all of his siblings.

Calling hours will be Thursday, January 2nd from 3-5pm at Freedom Baptist Church, Auburn, NY. Funeral service immediately following. Burial will be Friday, January 3rd at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Warners, NY.
