William J. Mitchell, 82, the husband of the late Patricia G. VanOstrand Mitchell, passed away Saturday night January 27, 2024 in Auburn. He was surrounded by his loving family during his passing. He was born in Auburn on September 14, 1941, he was the son of the late Donald and Leona Toole Mitchell. Bill retired from New Process Gear and in 1992, he and his late wife moved to Punta Gorda, FL where they resided for many years. Following the devastation of Hurricane Charley in 2004, they left Florida and moved to Sayre, PA. After the passing of his loving wife in 2018, Bill would move back to Auburn to be closer to family. He enjoyed small game hunting, listening to music and watching quality movies on his top-of-the-line home theater and stereo system. He was a man that knew a little about a lot. He could talk to you for hours about any and all subjects the world offers. Above all, Bill cherished his time spent with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and close friends.
He is survived by his children Coleen Johnson, Corene Wood, William Mitchell Jr., and Melissa Mitchell; grandchildren, Shane and Alex Mitchell, Erik, Kyle, Dr. Kelly Johnson Sellers (Dr. William), Mathew, and Luke Johnson, Cody Wood, Beth Wood Phillips, and Keith Mitchell; great grandchildren Nina, Xavier, Ivar, and twins Finnigan and Declan; one sister Cathy Fauss (John); sisters-in-law Virginia VanOstrand and Tammy Behara (Paul); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and his wife Pat, Bill is predeceased by two children, Timothy Mitchell in 2011 and Christine Mitchell in 2016; his stepfather Frank Mulvey; one brother Edward Mitchell; mother and father-in-law Clarence and Rose Tabor VanOstrand; and brother-in-law Clarence VanOstrand.
A special thanks to grandson Alex Mitchell and granddaughter Dr. Kelly Rose Sellers for their due diligence of making sure that everything Bill wanted was appropriately accommodated to his needs and wants.
